The center of the plot for newest Twilight film Eclipse involves an engagement ring. A ring that has to be absolutely perfect and has been incredibly difficult to get right, claims the original Twilight author, Stephanie Meyer. Deciding on the ring for the engagement between fictional characters Edward and Bella needed to be just right and the production wasn’t going to shoot the scene until they found the perfect ring.
The third film in the incredibly high grossing franchise essentially revolves around a love triangle between Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Kristen Stewart’s characters. Lautner claims, “I’ve never been in a love triangle. I would not want to be in that situation. I wouldn’t want to be in Bella’s situation for sure. Or Jacob’s. Or Edward’s!” The drama in the film deserved the best prop they could find to do the story line justice.
Meyer was staunch in her decision to not settle and prop master, Grant Swain, spent an enormous amount of time researching rings, as well as commissioning designs. Meyer decided none were acceptable and finally took matters into her own hands by designing the ring herself, with help from Portland-based jeweler Rick Thurber. Meyer describes the ring as “set with slanting rows of glittering round stones.” The beautiful pave-diamond ring was finished only hours before shooting commenced on the scene in question.
