Valerie Bertinelli, 50, has a new fiancé to go with her smoking new body. The former star of One Day at a Time (and the previous Mrs. Van Halen), has become engaged to long-time boyfriend Tom Vitale, 48 (a financial planner). After her very public and bitter split with Eddie Van Halen in 2002 (their divorce was finalized in December of 2007), Bertinelli met Vitale in 2004 (he had also suffered a recent divorce). The still-cute sitcom actress resurfaced as the spokeswoman for Jenny Craig in 2007 and has since lost forty plus pounds, but she says her weight was never an issue with Vitale, who taught her to love herself just as she is.
In a recent interview with AARP Magaizine, she claimed that she had no plans to remarry, but apparently Vitale changed her mind when he romantically proposed to her on a trip to Florence, Italy. Apparently, they share a strong bond over their Italian heritage and their mutual love of family (she has one son, Wolfgang, 19, with Van Halen, and he has four children from his former marriage). While she says she is leaving the wedding plans up to her hubby-to-be (according to her, he has already chosen which bells will go off in the midst of their nuptials), she has begun searching for a dress, which she has hinted may not be white (totally appropriate for a second marriage). In the mean time, she is enjoying her body, her life, and her newfound love, saying, “I can’t imagine my life – for the rest of my life, till the day I die – without him.”
With her career taking off again (besides being a spokeswoman for Jenny Craig, she is also starring in a new sitcom with Betty White, Hot in Cleveland), and a handsome new fiancé on her arm, it looks like Bertinelli is on cloud nine. And after her years of hardship with Eddie Van Halen (famously detailed on Oprah and in her 2008 tell all book Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time), the one-time girl-next-door deserves a little normalcy and happiness!
