The Eclipse Engagement Ring Took Time To Design

Twilight Engagement Ring

The center of the plot for newest Twilight film Eclipse involves an engagement ring. A ring that has to be absolutely perfect and has been incredibly difficult to get right, claims the original Twilight author, Stephanie Meyer. Deciding on the ring for the engagement between fictional characters Edward and Bella needed to be just right and the production wasn’t going to shoot the scene until they found the perfect ring.

The third film in the incredibly high grossing franchise essentially revolves around a love triangle between Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Kristen Stewart’s characters. Lautner claims, “I’ve never been in a love triangle. I would not want to be in that situation. I wouldn’t want to be in Bella’s situation for sure. Or Jacob’s. Or Edward’s!” The drama in the film deserved the best prop they could find to do the story line justice.

Meyer was staunch in her decision to not settle and prop master, Grant Swain, spent an enormous amount of time researching rings, as well as commissioning designs. Meyer decided none were acceptable and finally took matters into her own hands by designing the ring herself, with help from Portland-based jeweler Rick Thurber. Meyer describes the ring as “set with slanting rows of glittering round stones.” The beautiful pave-diamond ring was finished only hours before shooting commenced on the scene in question.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart…Engaged?

The Robert Pattinson/Kristen Stewart saga continues. The hot young starlets are never out of the papers, as much as they might like a little privacy, so when the rumor mill surfaced a story about the pair getting engaged this weekend, the news didn’t take long to travel.

While Pattinson has been busy shooting his new film, Bel Ami, and Kristen Stewart has been all over the country promoting her new film The Runaways, the two decided to have a romantic weekend away with each other over Easter. Although Easter weekend is not traditionally linked with romance, it may be the perfect low key time for Pattinson to pop the question.

As these are only rumors, it’s been speculated that Pattinson is ready to give Stewart an engagement ring. Their die-hard fans won’t believe the news until they see a shiny diamond ring on the beauty’s finger, but it’s fun to imagine. Whenever the couple do announce a big plan for their future, young men and women’s hearts will be breaking the world over.

The third movie in the Twilight saga is hitting the trailer rounds, and it’s a doozy.

Tish Monaghan has returned as costume designer for the film. When asked if that was what it looked like, Tish confirmed, “This is an engagement ring on Bella’s finger! This is something that was made for her by the props department.”

Other details aren’t confirmed, however the ring looks very similar to the domed oval ring that Stephenie Meyer, Twilight author, authorized after Eclipse first was published. You can buy it yourself at Infinite Jewelry! The ring was designed by Shelli Ashton, the founder of Infinite Jewelry Co.

Ashton, from St. George, Utah, was tired of just wearing her “Smitten, Not Bitten” t-shirt to display her fandom of the series. She went ahead and contacted Meyer to suggest the ring, and a sterling silver charm bracelet as well! Needless to say, she was surprised when Meyer answered that email, and then sent sketches of what she envisioned.

On July 18, 2008, the day Bella and Edward got engaged, 600 copies of the ring were released in the online store. 13 CZ stones are bonded with 14k gold in the center. There are three styles to choose from: Fashion (sterling silver band), Fine (white or yellow gold), and Genuine (true diamonds with a yellow or white gold band.)

So how about you… Are you fan enough to get the ring? Or will you just be satisfied to see it on screen?
